  • PrEP is a once-a-day pill that an be taken to prevent HIV.  It’s proven to be highly effective – up to 99% – but must be taken daily. You must be HIV negative in order to take PrEP and 3 month follow up visits.

  • It’s FREE! AOC covers all labs and doctor visits.

  • It’s FREE! Through programs like advancing access medication cost are fully covered and AOC covers additional clinic cost.

  • Proof of residential status is not needed to qualify for any of AOC PrEP Assistance programs.

  • Don’t believe everything you hear on Facebook. While taking PrEP you’ll have routine bloodwork every 3 months. These labs monitor HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, general bloodwork, and kidney function.

  • PrEP only protects against HIV. Condoms provide protection against other STIs, including gonorrhea and chlamydia.

  • PrEP is effective when taken as a daily regimen, one pill once a day.

  • Take the medication as soon as possible but do not double up, then resume taking medication at your normal time.

  • PrEP can be taken by anyone who is HIV-negative. If you contract other STIs while taking PrEP in our program, you can still take PrEP and we will contact you about treatment for other STIs.

  • Two weeks is enough time for most STIs to show in your body after exposure but HIV and other STIs can take longer. Many times STIs show no symptoms. If you're having sex with multiple people good for you and we would recommend getting tested every 3 months.
